Arkansas is a state located in the southern region of the United States of America. Arkansas shares a border with six states, with its eastern border largely defined by the Mississippi River. Its diverse geography ranges from the mountainous regions of the Ozarks and the Ouachita Mountains, which make up the U.S. Interior Highlands, to the eastern lowlands along the Mississippi River. The capital and most populous city is Little Rock, located in the central portion of the state.
Bentonville is a city in Benton County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 19,730 at the 2000 census. According to 2005 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city was 29,538, ranking it as the state's 13th largest city, behind Texarkana. Bentonville is the county seat of Benton County. The headquarters of Wal-Mart Stores, the largest retailer in the world, as well as that of The Whistler Group, a major US manufacturer of radar detectors, are located in Bentonville.
The ECHL, a minor-league professional ice hockey league, is coming to Bentonville in the Arkansas Sports & Entertainment Complex, a 9,500 seat multi-use complex.
In late-August 2006, civic officials in Bentonville began talks with the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the hopes to attract a team from the NBA Development League or a Women's National Basketball Association franchise.
